Writing these diary entries 2 weeks after doing them so memories gonna be a
bit hazy.
First flight of the hols in France 2006, Was pursuaded by Shedsy to enter
the Belgian Hangliding nationals so ended up doing so which im really
pleased I did.
No flying on the first day as the Tour de France went through the local
area which was pretty good to watch. All over and done within an hour!
First task was set to Aspre and back - a simple 55k out and return back to
the campsite.
Was my first flight for 2 months so was happy to do a simple route I
knew.
Everything was going well and I was in the middle of the pack once I
reached Beaumont 10k down the course. Big cunimbs were forming everywhere
and especially a big thunderstorm right over are turnpoint and there were
flashes of lightning which inevitably led for the task to be cancelled.
Shedsy was the only pilot to complete the course probably in a record time
as he flew at full speed in and out of the tunderstorm going 70kmh ground
speed all the way. Impressive stuff
With the task cancelled I was a bit low at beaumont and was strugling to
find lift as was many of the other piolts in the pack so I went on a
straight glide into the valley and ended having a bit of a heavy landing
just short of Eyguiyans. Good flight but bit pissed Of I didnt pursue
harder and fight my way back to the campsite.
